I am an avid content creator who has tested different tactics to achieve growth on TikTok.  I’ve always believed that you don't need expensive equipment to start creating.  Importantly, content matters!  Here are 5 tips to achieve growth for your brand’s TikTok.

1. Create engaging content

A key growth driver on TikTok is engaging content.  When creating content, it is important to delay the drop off rate by keeping viewers interested.  When TikTok recognizes a low viewer drop off rate at the start of the video, the algorithm is more likely to push your video to the For You page.

To keep viewers interested, add hooks at the start of the video! An example would be “We travelled 100 kilometres for this plate of Chicken Rice?! Is it worth it?”  Using sound effects like “woosh” and “risers” can help to create anticipation and excitement to watch on.

Editing in only necessary shots that add value to your video can improve your viewership.  To determine if it's a necessary shot, ask yourself, “What does the viewer gain out of this shot?” If you can answer this question, then include it!  If the video benefits the viewer, they are likely to share it.  This increases engagement, in turn contributing to growth.

2. Participate in Trends

On trend-centric TikTok, it is important to jump on trends quickly! Trends indicate what people are interested in.  If TikTok recognises engagement with your content, your video is more likely to be pushed to the “For You page”.  I also suggest using trending music in your videos.  If you are clueless on music choice, try TikTok's recommended music!

3. Use a TikTok creator account instead of a business account

If you using a business account, you may find it hard to grow views.  This is because you are restricted to a small music library which is non-copyrighted, making it hard to jump in on trends.  There is not much of a difference between a creator and business account, except the access to performance metrics and data. When you are just starting out, TikTok’s in-app analytics are sufficient. Crucial data such as viewer drop off rate and viewer activity are available on a creator account.

4. Timing and frequency of posting

The timing of posting greatly affects the performance of your video.  These are timings that worked for me.

Avoid Mondays

Tuesday 6-7 pm

Wednesday 6-7 pm

Thursday 6-7 pm

Avoid Fridays

Saturday 12-1 pm

Sunday 12-1 pm

Being consistent is key to staying relevant and keeping your viewers engaged.  Posting 2-3 times a week is a recommended frequency.  There is no limit to the number of videos you should publish in a week. Some even post multiple times a day!

5. Devise a content strategy

A good content strategy involves a mix in the type of content producedNot everyone wants to watch your brand promote your product solely! A good content strategy mix would include entertainment, education, trending, and promotional content.

The main takeaway to achieving growth is to create content people want to watch.  They want to watch videos that add value to their life, whether it be in a humorous way, educational way or more!

Now go forth and start your content creation journey!
